We have an incredibly passionate and engaged community network in the Erme catchment. Our community events are a great way to get involved and meet likeminded people with a passion to help improve river health.
Our collaboration with like-minded groups
WATER recognises that we are not alone in caring for the Erme. Throughout the catchment, many different community groups are playing an active role in helping restore and maintain their stretch of the river.
The river, its habitat and wildlife do not recognise parish boundaries and there’s a valuable lesson there in the benefits of informal collaboration, where we each support the others’ efforts where we can.
This was admirably demonstrated towards the end of last year when WATER was pleased to support three very successful river cleans in Ivybridge with PL21, in Ermington with Ermington Environmental and at Holbeton with Holbeton Environmental.
It was encouraging to see the enthusiasm and commitment of volunteers. Satisfying too to have a number of young families actively engaged in helping remove discarded materials and polluting plastics. Their experience will hopefully last a lifetime and encourage them to explain to others the consequences of thoughtlessly discarding litter along the riverbanks and beaches.
