A heartfelt message of congratulation and thanks to Sir David Attenborough on his 100th birthday

Sir David Attenborough sitting on a rock in front of the Great Barrier Reef.

The term ‘national treasure’ is often used as a salutation for those whom we feel have earned a special place in our hearts, minds and memories. But for Sir David Attenborough, the term ‘global treasure’ would not be an exaggeration, nor we suspect would it be challenged. Who else has travelled the world and brought to a global audience a deeper understanding of the natural world in all its interdependent complexity? Who else has made us observe and hold our breath in awe at the power and beauty of nature or inspired us to care more, respect more and want to explore more of it?

From continents and oceans to ‘our gardens’ David Attenborough has changed our view of the planet and every living thing that shares it with us.

Thank you for being so far ahead of the rest of us in identifying the threats to planet earth.

Thank you for taking us with you on your tireless journeys of discovery.

Thank you for being the voice of a planet that is crying out to be heard.

You have inspired us all to raise our game and come together in the shared endeavour of saving our planet from those who would plunder it for profit. You have made us all look in the mirror. If we don’t like what we see, the solution is in our own hands.

Thank you.

Oh! . . .and Happy Birthday

From all the team at WATER and our supporters.
